A life we loved, Denver N. Livingston, Jr., Shiloh’s  “Gentle  Giant” came  to  a  close on July 3, 2015 at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA.  GOD spoke peace to his soul, kissed the pain away and called him home to eternal rest.

Denver was born on September 15, 1942 in Stonega, VA and was the eldest of 15 children born to the late Denver N. Livingston, Sr. and Estella Livingston.  He was preceded in death by two sisters: Geneva Teasley and Ollie Mae Livingston; and two brothers: William Edward Livingston and John Raymond Livingston Sr.

Denver married the former Lenora McCray on December 28, 1964.  He graduated from the South Side High School in Norton, Virginia in 1961.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, serving in Vietnam and other locations until his Honorable Discharge in 1968; transferred to the United States Army Reserve where he served until November 2, 1972.

After his military service, he remained in Alexandria, Virginia where he obtained a job working in Construction on what is now known as Interstate 81. He was hired by the General Service Administration as a general laborer in the maintenance department and was eventually promoted to the Department of Engineering where he continued to progress until his retirement in March 2007 after 37 years of Federal Service.

In the late 1950’s, Denver joined Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.  He dedicated his life to the church and to serve others.

In early 1970, Deacon Livingston joined Shiloh Baptist Church and was a faithful and devoted member.  Serving as a member of the Deaconate Ministry, he was a member of the Benjamin Tribe, the Male Chorus, the Senior Ministry, the Mid-Day Bible Study, Church School Class #1 and the Shiloh Baptist Bowling League. Love to travel, he also served as the church van driver travelling to special events, retreats and the annual trip to the National Baptist Convention.

One of Deacon Livingston’s greatest strengths is that he was a dependable friend, a joy to work with and enjoyed helping people.  He has been a blessing to our senior members helping with home projects and automotive repairs.  His willingness to always lend a helping hand will indeed be missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Diane (Robert) Echols, and 3 grandchildren: Robert Lewis Echols III, Robin Sinclair Echols, and Raisa Celeste Echols.  Five brothers:  Lynn (Grace) Livingston; Micheal (Sharon) Livingston; Gail (Angela) Livingston; Jeffery (Kathy) Livingston and Albert (Sandra) Livingston.  Seven sisters:  Bernice James; Rose (John) Williams; Bertha McNeil; Eileen (Robbie) Bowser; Judy (Rusty) Rice; Jackie (Roy) Miles; Janie Boozer.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many devoted friends.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Monday, July 13, 2015, at Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at the church with Rev. Lowell D. Parker officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at 2:30 PM Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for services.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
